Clothesline Festival & Art Sale
A huge selection of original works by many of Alberta’s top artists, sculptors and fine crafters will be featured in tents and on clotheslines outdoors across 85 acres of Foothills splendor at the Leighton Art Centre’s annual Clothesline Festival & Art Sale. If its framed art you’re interested in, see what’s currently hanging in the Leighton Heritage Home gallery. The choices are impressive!
A tradition at the Centre for over 35 years, the Clothesline Festival and Art Sale presents a wide array of original artwork. Drawings, pastels, watercolors, acrylics and oil paintings are displayed side by side on clotheslines that are strung inside huge tents at the historic A.C. and Barbara Leighton residence property. Pick up a few tips from artists as they demonstrate their painting and sculpting skills. Stroll through our beautiful aspen grove adorned with outdoor sculpture. Fine craft such as hand blown glass, silk scarves, jewelry, art cards and pottery will also be for sale.

Located just a short drive southwest of Calgary, on The Cowboy Trail the Centre offers a magnificent 85 acre panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains. The Centre was established by Barbara Leighton to support artists and promote art education. Our programs celebrate the landscape by encouraging artists – from beginners to masters – to experience the landscape and follow in the painterly footsteps of A.C. Leighton. In addition approximately 10,000 Calgary and area school children visit the Leighton Art Centre every year and participate in our Art and Nature program. The Clothesline Art Sale offers an opportunity for visitors to purchase original works by recognized Alberta artists, and to discover the new talents of emerging artists. Funds raised from the event will be used to support the educational activities of the Leighton Art Centre.
